Om Puri -- An Immortal Actor

You made your film debut in the Marathi film Ghashiram Kotwal in 1972, based on a Marathi play, then after series of your momentous works you appeared in Don 2 in 2011, Ghayal Once Again as ACP Joe D’souza in 2016, The Jungle Book by giving your voice to Bagheera in 2016, to Actor In Law as a Pakistani debut in 2017.

We’ll remember you for your remarkable ear catching voice when you used to rule our televisions, for your versatile characters you played in Indian Cinema. You played a role of police officer in a movie Ardh Satya in 1983, as the leader of a cell of Sikh militants in Maachis (1996); and as the courageous father of a martyred soldier in Dhoop (2003); which will never be erased from our memories.

You played a magnificent comic roles in Hindi films like Chachi 420 (1997), Hera Pheri (2000), and Malamaal Weekly (2006); which still make us laugh.

Your appearance and notable work in television serial like that of Bharat Ek Khoj on Doordarshan is still missed. You left your mark internationally too when you worked in British films which made every Indian proud. When you were awarded Padma Shri in 1990, India’s fourth highest civilian award and made an honorary Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2004, that made all of us believe that how one person could hold a whole era with him.
